"I will not abandon the movement because the kids and the academics are raised with me. I thank them and the people who accompanied me yesterday," added the singer.
It was presented Thursday at the office of the Electoral Council in Port-au-Prince, with his wife and daughter in the midst of a demonstration of joy around 500 young fans, to formalize his candidacy.
"The reason for my presence in this race (as president) that I see that the country needs education, employment, health, and especially, especially investment," added the singer, who grew up in the United States where he rose to fame with the group "The Fugees".
The presidential election is scheduled Nov. 28 in Haiti, struck Jan. 12 by a violent earthquake that was thrown into the street near the 1.5 million people and killed more than 250,000 dead. President Rene Preval can not run for a third term.
On Friday, six new candidates are registering with the Haitian electoral council, including a woman, Myrlande Manigat, bringing the number of candidates to 14.
